COVID-19 Response By Insurance Companies
Due to the reduced driving and financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our insurance company partners have instituted premium credits, payment flexibility, and suspended cancellations for non-payment.
Below you’ll find an overview of the various relief programs. Keep in mind, the companies are making changes to these programs as the situation changes. We’re doing our best to include the most up-to-date information but you should check your individual insurance company’s website for more details.

Acuity | 4/16/2020 | Payment Flexibility / Rate Reduction | All existing personal lines auto policyholders will receive a rate cut for the entire next 12-month policy term at their policy renewal. New customers will also see a reduction in Acuity’s standard automobile insurance rates. A typical customer with two cars will see a decrease between $50 and $100, depending on their unique situation. This amounts to a credit of 7% for most customers. The rate decrease will apply to all new and renewal policies with effective dates on and after March 11, 2020. Allstate | 5/5/2020 | Premium Credit / Payment Flexibility | On average, personal auto insurance customers will receive 15 percent money back based on their monthly premium in April and May. Allstate business customers have the option to defer billing until May 31. After the deferment period, the balance will be added to the next month’s installment. |

ASI | Cancellations Suspended | We will suspend the cancellation of active policies due to non-payment through May 15, 2020. In the meantime, we strongly encourage you to make a payment if you’re able to. Automatic payments will continue to go through unless you tell us to stop them. After May 15th, any remaining balance on your policy will become due. If you need more support, please don’t hesitate to call us‚ we’re happy to work with you to manage payments moving forward. | |
Berkley One | Premium Credit | Each client with an active auto insurance policy will receive a 20% refund on April and May auto premiums. Clients do not need to take action as the payback will be applied automatically in June, subject to requisite regulatory approvals. | |

Chubb | Premium Credit | Upon renewal, clients will receive a credit reflecting a 35% premium reduction for the months of April and May, with additional discounts for subsequent months, as the situation warrants. Chubb’s U.S. small business clients whose policies renew between April 1 and August 1, 2020 will receive an automatic 25% reduction in the sales and payroll exposures used to calculate their premium as well as a 15% reduction in premiums for their commercial auto insurance. | |
Cincinnati | 4/27/2020 | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | Cincinnati Insurance and Cincinnati Casualty personal lines auto policyholders will receive a 15% credit per policy on your April and May premiums ‚ pending regulatory approval. No action is required on your part to receive this discount. We are suspending all property & casualty cancellations due to nonpayment from March 16 to May 31. |

EMC | 4/29/2020 | Cancellations Suspended | Update: EMC is extending the hold on cancellations for nonpayment of premiums through May 15, 2020 except for policies in IA, NH, SD, UT, WY, & DC. EMC Insurance Companies is placing a 30-day hold on cancellations for non-payment of premium for those policyholders experiencing hardships during this time. Late payment notices or late fees will not be issued from March 19, 2020, through April 17, 2020. This is an extension of the grace period for our customers directly impacted by the COVID-19 situation; however, this is not a waiver for those payments due during this time. |
Encompass | Premium Credit / Payment Flexibility | On average, personal auto insurance customers will receive 15 percent money back based on their monthly premium in April and May. Encompass auto and home insurance customers facing financial challenges can request a special payment plan that delays payments with no penalty. | |
Integrity | Premium Credit | Integrity Insurance has decided to return some premium to personal auto policyholders in the form of a 25% credit for the months of April and May. | |

Liberty Mutual | 5/19/2020 | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | Update: Billing leniency has been extended to June 15 for small commercial customers. Cancellations are suspended through this date and no late fees will be applied. Small commercial customers will receive a 15% refund of two months of their annual BOP premium for policies in-force as of April 1, 2020, pending regulatory approval. The refunds will be issued by check. Customers do not need to call Liberty Mutual to receive the refund. Late fees have been stopped and non-pay cancellations have been paused until at least June 1, 2020. Non-renewals for policies with effective dates between April 1 and July 31 have been paused. |
Main Street America Commercial Lines | Premium Credit | The program involves providing a 20 percent premium credit for all of our Business Owner’s and Contractors insureds for the months of April and May for policies in force as of March 31, 2020 in all of our states. | |
Main Street America Personal Lines | Premium Credit | The premium relief will come in the form of a one-time full payment of $50 per vehicle covered by a Main Street America personal auto policy. Checks will be made out to the named insured on the auto policy and mailed to the address on file. Main Street America expects to complete the printing and distribution of checks within 60 days. | |
MetLife | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | For April and May, our MetLife Auto customers who are paid to date will receive a 15% credit based on their monthly premiums. Through July 1, 2020, we will not cancel nor non-renew any active policies due to non-payment and will waive late payment fees. | |
Nationwide | 5/21/2020 | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | Update: Hardship suspensions have been extended until June 15. We are offering a one-time premium refund of $50 per policy for personal auto policies active as of March 31, 2020. The premium refund and timing are subject to individual state regulatory approval. If a customer is experiencing hardship due to COVID-19, we can suspend the cancellation of some policies, defer payment deadlines, and waive some late fees. Home and auto customers can contact us at 877-669-6877, and business customers can reach us at 888-508-8622. |
Progressive | Premium Credit | Subject to approval by state regulators, Progressive personal auto customers who have a policy in force as of April 30th will be credited 20% of their April premiums in May and personal auto customers with a policy in force as of May 31st will be credited 20% of their May premiums in June. | |
Pure | 7/6/2020 | Premium Credit | Members in states that issued stay-at-home orders can expect a 15% premium credit to apply for the duration of the order. For members in states where no stay-at-home order was issued, or where stay-at-home orders lasted less than 30 days, we will offer a premium credit of 15% for a 30 day period. |
Safeco | 5/19/2020 | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | Update: Billing leniency has been extended to June 15. Cancellations are suspended through this date and no late fees will be applied. Personal auto insurance customers will receive a 15% refund of two months of their annual auto premium as of April 7, 2020, pending regulatory approval. Effective March 23, 2020, we are introducing a countrywide 60-day billing leniency policy for Safeco and Liberty Mutual small commercial customers. This means that from March 23 through May 22, 2020, we are holding all non-pay cancellations. |
Selective | Premium Credit | 15% of the monthly premium for the months of April and May will be applied as a credit to the account of each customer who has an in-force personal and/or business auto policy as of April 30, 2020 and May 31, 2020. | |

Travelers | 5/29/2020 | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | Update: 15% auto credit has been extended to include June premiums as well. We have launched the Stay-at-Home Auto Premium Credit Program, which will automatically give U.S. personal auto insurance customers a 15% credit on their April and May premiums. In addition, we’re suspending cancellation and nonrenewal of coverage through June 15 – there will be no interest, late fees or penalties charged during this time. |
Universal Property | Cancellations Suspended | Providing a 30-day payment grace period from the expected cancel effective date; unless otherwise required your respective state’s department of insurance. Waiving all penalties/fees relating to late payments – Waiving any reinstatement fees relating to late payments. | |
USLI | 4/27/2020 | Payment Flexibility / Cancellations Suspended | Direct Bill policyholders experiencing difficulty with premium payments can contact USLI at (866) 632-2003 for further assistance. We have suspended all cancellations for non-payment at the present time to provide financial relief to our policyholders. Our Direct Bill minimum premium requirements will be waived when requested at time of binding, and any of our bill plans will be made available in order to ease any immediate financial burden. Existing policyholders can contact us to discuss options for changing their current payment plan to allow for a longer payment schedule. |
West Bend | 5/5/2020 | Premium Credit | West Bend will send a one-time payment of $50 to our Home and Highway policyholders who insure their vehicles with us. All SMARTbusiness policyholders with policies in effect as of March 11, 2020 will receive 15% of 9 weeks of policy premium, with a minimum payment of $50. These payments will automatically be issued as checks. |
Western National | Premium Credit / Cancellations Suspended | We are offering premium relief in the amount of 15% on Personal Auto policyholders’ premiums for April and May. The Personal Auto premium relief program remains subject to regulatory approval. Through June 1, 2020, we will not be canceling Personal Lines policies due to non-payment of premium. (However, please note: policies that have been issued a renewal will expire if not paid. Policyholders that wish to renew their coverage may call us to discuss options for extending coverage.) | |
Westfield | 5/22/2020 | Premium Credit / Payment Flexibility / Cancellations Suspended | Update: Suspension of all policyholder cancellations and application of late fees has been extended until June 15. Westfield Personal Auto customers will receive a 15% credit of their eligible monthly auto premium for the months of April, May, and June 2020. Customers with an active Personal Auto policy as of April 30, 2020, will receive the full credit to their bill in the month of May 2020. We’ll take care of the paperwork; agents and customers won’t have to do a thing. Westfield continues to offer flexibility for payments from customers facing difficulties from COVID-19 pandemic and has suspended all cancellations and late fees from March 20 through May 31, 2020. |
